  • Superb detail, some underlying luster. 
  • Obverse: IMP CAES T AEL ANTONINVS AVG PIVS PP, laureate head of emperor right. 
  • Reverse: TR POT XIIII COS IIII, TRANQ in ex., Tranquillitas standing right holding rudder and grain ears.
  • Tranquillitas was the personification of tranquility. Tranquillitas seems to be related to Annona (the goddess of the corn harvest from Egypt) and Securitas, implying reference to the peaceful security of the Roman Empire.
  • An appropriate type for this emperor who enjoyed a peaceful and prosperous reign.
